Lorraine le Plastrier - Artist
Lorraine works in many mediums including drawing, painting, sculpture and silversmithing. Her work is known for its excellent skill and crafting of whichever material she chooses to use. She loves researching topics, developing creative ideas and turning these into artworks. People have been a continuing source of inspiration with their own special characteristics.
In drawings and paintings, Lorraine has long been interested in exploring the Australia landscape with its secrets and mysteries.
Her award winning sculptural works often show exquisite detail and the subjects portray narrative tales from her own experience of life. They are often expressed with humour and whimsy. Recently one of her Sculptures “She Who Sails IntoThe Wind” was used by Australia's most performed composer,Elena Kats-Chernin, as an inspiration for the commission of an orchestral piece for Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra to celebrate their 50thanniversary. Her work has been published in the U.K. Woodcarving Magazine 2006,2007,2008,2011 and the Australian Wood Review 2006, in U.S.A Lark Books ”500 Wood Bowls Bold and Original Designs Blending Tradition and Innovation “2004
Lorraine le Plastrier has her work represented in private collections in three states -Victoria, New South Wales and West Australia and Overseas - Belgium and the United States.
AWARDS
West Australia Perth - Her sculptures have received awards for nine consecutive years 2012- 2004 and further awards 2014 and 2015 at the highly acclaimed 'OUT OF THE WOODS' exhibition.
Victoria - In 2006 her work 'Taking Music and Lunch to Nana Johannah' was awarded the Sculpture prize by the Victorian Woodworkers Association 'LIVING WITH WOOD' Exhibition. “Bad Hair Day 3” was selected by five judges for the VWA exhibition 2017
ARTS GRANTS
She has been the recipient of several Arts Grants amongst them an Arts Grant from the University of Western Australia to complete a series of Cloisonne and silver brooches.
